Where to Find Tutoring Jobs

Unlike some jobs, tutoring jobs can be found just about anywhere. Any town, city or village that has people, potentially has tutoring jobs. If you are not close to any towns, go on the internet. You can tutor people right on line.

If you do not have internet service, you can offer your tutoring services through regular mail. Mail order studies used to be a very popular way for people to learn, but with the invention of the internet, not too many people choose that option anymore. You will have to be quite ingenious to attract clients through mail order.

Who Can be a Tutor

Technically, anyone can be a tutor. When your parents or older siblings helped you with your homework, they were your personal tutors. When you stayed after class for extra help from your teacher, she was your tutor. When you studied for a test with your best friend, he was your tutor.

But, to make a career out of tutoring, you need some credentials. The more glowing your resume, the better. You will be able to get more clients and better paying jobs.

What Does it Take

To be a successful tutor you should have a teaching degree. A teaching degree not only lets your clients know that you are a certified teacher, but it gives you the skills you need to teach effectively. Anyone can open a book and start spewing statistics or historical facts, but helping a student learn takes more than just facts and figures.

You have to be caring, compassionate and have a true desire to help other succeed. In that, you will succeed, as well. Once word spreads about how Johnny could not wait for his daily lesson, clients will be knocking down you door to get you to teach their children.

With tutoring jobs you can make as much money as you like. Unlike regular teaching jobs, as a tutor you set your own price. If you are good and in high demand, you can increase your salary. Just keep in mind, there are new tutors popping up every day. You do not want to out-price yourself.

If you are just staring out and do not know how to attract clients, consider joining an agency. People that have never hired a tutor will go to an agency first. This agency matches its tutors with the needs of the client. If you specialize in math and a client needs a math whiz, the agency will send you over.

You can not set your own price and the agency will take a percentage of your wages, but is the ideal way to build up your reputation and experience.
